Marks and Spencer’s CSR report highlights
Plan A
Climate Change:
• Marks and Spencer have committed to make their operations in the UK and the Republic of Ireland Carbon neutral.
• They Advise customers and suppliers to be more Carbon Neutral.
• The Clothes that are bought at Marks and Spencer’s can now be washed at 30 degrees, this way it saves CO2 emissions.
• Delivery Vehicles now include a teardrop trailer as well as electrical and diesel hybrid vehicles.
Environment:
• They are not sending as much waste into landfill from the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
• Reduce of packaging and carrier bags.
• Over 90% of their own food packaging is recyclable
• Marks and Spencer’s carrier bags are all made out of recycled material, 24% of this is made up of materials from their own warehouses.
Ethical:
• Marks and Spencer’s use fair trade, they pay fair price to suppliers.
• They have opened three new model factories in Bangladesh to demonstrate the economic benefits and to show good ethics and intentions.
• Marks and Spencer’s support their local community, they offer a Marks and Spencer’s work experience program helping disadvantaged people back to work increasing the growth in the economy.
• They ensure very good and suitable working conditions for anyone person who is involved in their franchise.
Employees:
• The employees can be elected to sit in business involvement groups, this makes it able for employees on the floor to make bigger key decisions regarding where the company goes.
• Employees can apply for a retirement plan. In this scheme, M&S doubles employee contributions up to a maximum of 12% of salary, with generous company contributions.
• They plan to open new workshops and stores to encourage more people to get jobs and be part of Marks and Spencer’s.
